How to make accessible a "Scanned PDF" file using Adobe Acrobat Pro

This guide shows you how to make a scanned PDF file accessible. In the files section of a Canvas course, you often come across a file that says "scanned pdf", for example, when a Professor takes their text book and simply makes a scan of it. This creates a non-accessible PDF. You will need to use "Adobe Acrobat Pro" in order to make the scanned PDF accessible. The steps below will show you how to do this from within Adobe Acrobat Pro. First, an example of what "Ally" shows as a non-accessible scanned PDF file.

The guide:

Open the file in Adobe Acrobat Pro and then select "Enhance Scans"

1) Select "Recognize Text"

2) Select "In This File"

Select "Recognize Text" to finish the process.
